Urban Habitat Collective

Urban Habitat Collective are sad to announce that they have made the tough decision to end the cohousing project they set out to build.

Over the last 4 and a half years, they have bought the land, have built the community, designed their homes, and have acquired resource and building consents. But in the end, the building market outran them. In the last two years, the build cost for their project has risen by 90%, and this was not viable with the bank or project members.

“If we want beautiful urban communities where residents put down roots and thrive, we need medium density housing designed and built with empathy for, and input from, future residents. We believe the project we’re working on is a viable urban addition to the current housing mix; one that is attractive to people at all life stages.”
