Madras Square
Following the devastation of the Christchurch earthquakes, much of Otautahi’s inner-city residential real estate became unsafe to inhabit. As a result, many sites were left completely empty. One such site, just northeast of Latimer Square, was chosen for use in the “Breathe Urban Village” competition, run by the Christchurch City Council in the early 2010s and listed separately as a past project on this site. A second proposal by Otahuhu Urban Guild attempted at an intentional community development at Madras Square. Currently a third generation project by current developers 'Foley Group, Mike Greer Homes and Peebles Group, DCM Urban' are working to develop this site into a new urban village. This village, Madras Square, is a new mixed-use development with a mix of both residential and commercial property.
"Post-lockdown, lending requirements tightened significantly and we were unable to support the purchase of the full site with the current level of sales interest.”
